Password Protected Directories
Understand more details on password-protected directories and just what they bring to your website.
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed only if a username and a password are typed in, so no unauthorized individuals can check out its content. This function may be used for the main folder of a particular website or just for a particular subfolder based on the needs you have. For instance, if you are building a new website and you don't want people to see it before it is ready, you need to restrict the access to it as a whole, and if you need only some people to be able to access particular files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the website can be seen by anybody. Anyway, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear when the login details the visitor inputs aren't accurate. Even a direct link to a file shall not work if any folder above it is password-protected.
Password Protected Directories in Web Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take only several clicks and a few seconds if you host your websites within a web hosting account with our company. You will not need to do anything complicated - you will need to choose a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it has to be secured, and then to enter the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals need their own login details, there shall not be a problem to set up a variety of different usernames with access to the same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you will always know where this feature is active. If you wish to deactivate the protection feature for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
